Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Canoga Park Owner’s Guide
We weld and fabricate Linear gate parts in Canoga Park daily, and most broken brackets, hinge mounts, and gate frame sections we repair run between $180 and $420 installed, depending on the metal thickness, whether the part comes off the gate or gets welded in place, and how much grinding and repainting the area needs. We stock common Linear-compatible steel stock on the truck and can fabricate most brackets and mounting plates same-day. Most Canoga Park homeowners discover the failure when the gate starts dragging, the Linear operator strains audibly, or a weld cracks visibly at a hinge or bracket point.

Linear operators depend on their mounting hardware more than most brands. When a bracket flexes or a weld fails, the operator’s limit switch calibration drifts because the arm geometry changes by millimeters. We see this constantly on older Linear SwingScrew and Linear SlideGate installs around Canoga Park, where the combination of hot dry summers and occasional heavy rain cycles makes powder-coated steel brackets crack at the weld points faster than the motor itself wears out. Name what you found, name what it costs, name what you left behind: that’s how we run every fabrication call.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
We fabricate and weld for the Linear swing-gate line (primarily the VS-100A and the newer Linear Smart Swing models), their slide-gate operators (SL series), and the Linear access-control posts and pedestals common in Canoga Park communities with shared entry gates. The compatibility issue most owners run into is simple: the original post bracket or gate bracket on a Linear install was often a universal plate drilled and welded to fit by the original installer, not a factory-stamped part. That means the replacement often needs to be fabricated to match the existing bolt pattern and offset, not pulled off a shelf.
Before we weld anything, we photograph the existing bracket, measure the hole centers, and note the plate thickness with a caliper. Then we decide whether a true Linear OEM replacement bracket makes sense, or whether we should cut and weld a heavier aftermarket plate. For most Canoga Park gates, we recommend aftermarket steel at least 1/8-inch thick when the original was thinner, because the dry-season expansion and contraction here work-harden thin brackets and they crack again within a few years. Vance Gate Repair Canoga Park is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Linear; we work on the operator you already have and repair it rather than steering you toward replacement. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls when a site has mixed brands.
Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- The gate sags at the hinge side. This usually means a hinge weld has cracked or the hinge leaf is tearing away from the steel gate frame. The Linear operator then has to lift the gate as it swings, which burns limit and travel settings over time.
- The operator arm bracket moves when the gate starts. If you can watch the bracket flex or shift even an eighth of an inch during the first second of travel, the mounting plate weld has failed or the plate itself is bending. The motor is fighting geometry, not weight.
- You hear a sharp pop or ping when the gate reverses direction. That’s the sound of a cracked weld opening and closing under load. We hear it most often on Canoga Park gates near the Westfield Topanga corridor where constant stop-and-go traffic means the gate cycles hundreds of times a day.
- The gate post leans or the welds at the base of the post show rust lines. A post that moves even slightly changes the gate’s plane of travel and causes the Linear operator to stall or chatter. This is a structural repair, not a parts swap.
- The operator runs fine but the gate won’t fully open or close. When a weld fails at a bracket, the gate’s travel stops a few degrees short. The operator wants to keep going but the arm geometry says no. The limit switch keeps clicking without the gate ever reaching its true stop.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Canoga Park, most Linear welding and fabrication jobs on our trucks run from $180 to $420 installed. That includes cutting and prepping the existing steel, fabricating or modifying the bracket or plate, welding it in place, grinding the weld smooth, and priming the repaired area. If the job requires removing the gate from its hinges and taking it to the shop, or if we’re rebuilding a rusted post base, the price moves to the $500 to $900 range because we’re working with thicker structural steel and the gate has to be re-hung and re-balanced.
Every fabrication job we do starts with a written price handed to you before we strike an arc. That price includes the parts, the labor, and the cleanup. You don’t pay a different number when we finish. The work is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld cracks or the bracket fails within one year, we come back and fix it at no additional charge. Adrian Vance started this approach in 2014 during his access-control days and never saw a reason to change it.
DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do: check the visible welds at the hinges and operator bracket for cracks, take photos of the bracket and any tags on your Linear operator, and measure the gap between the gate and the post at the latch side. That information lets us confirm the model compatibility and give you a written price faster when we arrive. What you should not do: grind out and re-weld a bracket yourself, especially while the operator is still connected. A gate under tension from a Linear swing arm carries stored energy, and when a weld lets go the gate can move suddenly. The welding itself also requires the gate to be grounded carefully so stray current doesn’t damage the operator’s control board.
If the gate is sagging, popping, or short-traveling, call (805) 210-8672. We’ll tell you what we think it is over the phone, schedule a visit, and give you the written price before any torch comes out.
FAQs
A properly prepped and primed weld on 1/8-inch or thicker steel typically lasts 5 to 8 years in Canoga Park before surface rust at the weld suggests another look. Thinner original brackets often crack within 2 to 3 years, which is why we upsell to a heavier plate when the geometry allows it. Call (805) 210-8672 and we’ll tell you honestly which condition your bracket is in.
In many cases yes, a cracked weld can be ground out and re-welded, but if the base metal shows rust-through or the crack runs into the bolt hole, the bracket needs to be replaced or reinforced with a fabricated plate behind it. We decide on site and photograph the evidence either way. Call (805) 210-8672 for a written assessment.
Most single-bracket or hinge weld repairs run 2 to 3 hours on site, including cool-down and priming. A post rebuild or a removed-gate repair is typically a half day. We’ll tell you the expected time when we hand you the written price.
We carry common steel plate, angle iron, and hinge stock that matches most Linear swing and slide gate mounts, plus replacement hardware for the common VS and SL series operators. If your gate needs a heavier gauge or a custom offset, we can have the steel ready the same day in most Canoga Park locations.
